SARS has made two changes to the tax season that will directly impact taxpayers, which is vital to note.

Auto assessments

SARS implemented a new feature to the auto assessment process that entails that you do not need to “accept” the assessment should you agree with it. Should you not agree with your assessment, you will have 40 business days to respond to the assessment by filing a tax return as usual. You will receive your auto assessment via your preferred communication channels, such as an SMS or email. The auto assessment generator works by gathering all your tax documents linked to your ID to prepopulate your assessment.

Shortening of the Tax season

SARS has shortened the tax season by a month this year. The tax season will now end on 24 October 2022, whereas last year, it ended on 23 November 2021. Therefore, you only have four months to gather your tax documents and complete your annual tax return. SARS explained that ending the tax season earlier will afford them more time to finalise the country’s assessments before the end of December 2022.

Please be assured that, despite the above measures, we are still ensuring that your tax returns are done correctly and filed on time. If you have any questions or concerns on any tax-related matters or the new changes being implemented, please contact us on 012 347 0561/2.
